Offroading in Uwharrie Again

I went with Andy and Bryan Garland to Uwharrie yesterday.

This time I rode along in Andy’s Jeep so we could check out some of the trails marked “difficult” and “extremely difficult”

We couldn’t make one of the difficult trails, nor the extremely difficult trail. We made everything else no problem.

Here is the hill climb on one of the difficult trails, Dickey Bell. Sorry for the short video, my memory card was full. Next time I’ll take my 2GB card instead. Videos beat pictures for offroading.

DC Heather Visits Again! (Finally)

I’ve been sending DC Heather (from here on out known simply as Heather) reminders to come visit me. More accurately, I setup a cron job to send her emails periodically. It was a quick little bit of shell scripting that I enjoyed. Woo scripting things.

I decided to make the messages more insistent, and hilarious / witty. Then all of the sudden out of nowhere Heather decided to come visit. This is after 4 years of failing to get her to come back down. Thank you shell scripting class. I now know another practical application of bash.

She wrote up the entire story of the weekend. I can’t do a better job explaining all the events, so I’ll just link to her blog post about the NC Visit.

I did manage to take a few pictures while she was here though. We had a pretty awesome and action packed time in the short span she was here.

Here is the link to my Gallery of Heather’s Visit.

We went to the Tobacco District and I made her “Make me a bicycle Clown!”.

Bicycle!

There were some fun water fall / fountain pictures:

Baby Turtles at the Gardens:

We had some Dinner with friends:

And then back to Garland’s basement bar for some drinks:

I left my camera in the car so I don’t have any good beach pictures. I didn’t get any awesome pictures of Heather racing my car around either.

Now she’ll have a reason to come back ;)

Jeeping in Uwharrie

I went Jeeping in Uwharrie with Andy, Bryan Shapess, and Bryan Garland.

It was a pretty awesome time, even though it was very wet. There was a lot of slipping and sliding. The downhill sections were treacherous. Have you ever tried to guide 5000 lbs of sliding steel down a 50 foot slope when the steering wheel was more of a suggestion than an actual useful input?

Excitement and adventure.

Here are some pictures of the whole ordeal

What to read?

I finished the Dune series, and the Sword of Truth series.

I have a kindle and I was looking for something to read. I downloaded the Sword of Shannarra series. I am extremely disappointed. Not that it is a bad series, but it just doesn’t live up to Sword of Truth or Dune at all in terms of quality and interest. It doesn’t grab the reader by the balls and say “READ ME TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT”.

It seems predictable. Maybe others have copied from him, maybe he’s copied from others, but I just get the feeling that I’ve read it before.

It’s three books and I’m on the first one now. Since I paid for it I’ll read it and add it to my collection, hoping it gets better towards the end.

Any recommendations for a good (completed) fiction series? Like I told Kurt and Brendan, I like my authors dead. This way I don’t have to wait for the rest of the series to be written. They can be alive too, that’s ok. As long as the series is done.

Man Pill

I’ve decided that I want to make a product that brings me ridiculous amounts of wealth and allows me to pursue my dream of flying planes and racing motorcycles.

My new invention will be:

The Man Pill

This once a day pill (for men) will be a multifaceted wonder drug. It promises to:

1. Grow hair back on your head
2. Increase the length of your penis
3. Give you a rock hard erection for 6 – 12 hours
4. Lower cholesterol
5. Increase muscle mass

An optional version of the man pill will even act as a contraceptive.

BAM! Let the money start rolling in.
